the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Chennai is conducting a Student Photography & Videography Contest for Graduate and Post Graduate students.
The competition aims to create awareness to understand the significance and delicate balance between the coast and humans. Students are encouraged to come up with innovative ideas that could lead to conservation, preservation of resources and protection of the environment for the benefit of society.

Videography Themes:
1. Society and the Coast Showcasing interactions between people and the coast (Eg., Socio-economic interdependencies, Climate change, Marine pollution, etc.)
2. Hope for tomorrow’s coasts Signs of hope for a better tomorrow, postive actions such as coastal resotration, etc. towards a safe & protected, healthy & resilient, clean and sustainable coast and blue economy.
How to Participate and Submit:
1. Register through the Google Form :

2. Upload your scanned college ID card
3. Upload photo(with caption)/video (with short description) in the Google form.
Photography guidelines:
a) All photographs should have a caption not exceeding seven words.
b) Individual participation only is allowed.
c) Maximum three entries are allowed for each participant.
d) File Size should not exceed 10 MB
e) Minimum Resolution: 300dpi
f) Photograph dimensions: Minimum1920 X 1080 pixels
g) Accepted Formats: JPG/JPEG/HEIC
h) File naming: <Photo>_<Participant’s Full Name>_<Theme Number>_<Number of Entry> (For example, if Amit Sharma is submitting 1st entry of a photograph on the theme “Marine Biodiversity”, the file name will be: Photo_AmitSharma_2_1)
i) The photos should not contain any words like the participants name/publisher’s name/artist’s name, quotes, etc.
j) Photographs that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, addition of watermarks, etc.) will be disqualified.
Videography Guidelines:
a) All videos should be submitted with a short description not exceeding 150 words.
b) Individual or group entries are allowed.
c) Group size: Maximum 3 participants. For each group, a maximum of 3 entries are allowed.
d) Each student can submit only 3 entries- either as part of a group or as an invidual participant.
e) No student can be part of more than one group.
f) Video run-time: Not exceeding 2 minutes (120 seconds). Do not exceed
the given time limit . This will have weightage in selection
g) File Size should not exceed 300 MB. This will have weightage in selection
h) Video resolution: 4k or above.
i) Accepted formats: .wmv (Windows Movie Maker, Windows Media Player, etc.), .avi (Audio Video Interleave), .mov (iMovie), .mp4, or mpeg4 (Quicktime video format).
j) File naming: <Video>_<Lead Participant’s full name>_<Theme Number>_<Number of Entry> (For example, if Amit Sharma is submitting 1st entry of a video on the theme “Society and the Coast”, the file name will be: Video_AmitSharma_1_1)
k) Motion Video with Audio/Voice-over recording/Music/combination of all is permitted.
l) Words or text should be used only where it is necessary.
m) Videos should not contain names of creators/ organizations/ other details as the videos will be judged anonymously.
n) Videos can be made with camcorders/cameras/mobile phones/ other
video recording devices.
General Rules:
1. No Registration Fee.
2. All photographs/ videos must be ORIGINAL. Plagiarism will be checked and any entries found in violation of copyrights will be DISQUALIFIED.
3. Entries must not have been published, self-published, posted on a website, or made public on social media, broadcast, or featured among the winners in another competition before 21st July 2023.
4. Participants agree to give exclusive rights to your submitted work to NCCR, MoES. All the photos/videos shall become the property of NCCR. Each participant automatically grants NCCR the right to reproduce, publish, transmit, or otherwise communicate to the public their entry, in whole or in part, or use any media without permission or payment.
5. NCCR reserves the final right to select winners of the competition.
6. Entries should be original and should not involve criticism of individual or organization.
7. NCCR is not responsible for any copyrights violation issue, misuse of information/materials plagiarism.
8. No copyrighted materials (music, motion pictures, images, etc.) may be used for this contest unless you own the copyright.
Results, Prizes & Certificates:
1. Selection will be done by a panel of judges.
2. Relevance to the theme, quality, creativity, effective communication, visual appeal and originality of work, adherence to provided guidelines will have weightage in selection.
3. Results will be announced during NCCR’s Silver Jubilee Celebration Week.
4. All participants will receive Digital Certificates.
5. Winners will be awarded with exciting prizes.
